Summer Camp 2015 – Hairspray JR

The production is adapted from the hit stage musical of the same name which won 8 Tony Awards including “Best Musical”. The high energy musical piled bouffant high with laughter, romance, and deliriously tuneful songs. The young performers will receive 3 weeks of all-round performing art training on music, theatre and dance by professional coaches of the Summer School. The production will not only charm the audience with its wit and energy, but also its beautiful message of acceptance and pursuit for human beings’ equality.

It is 1962 in Baltimore. Spunky plus-size teenager Tracy Turnblad pursues her big dream – to dance on the popular Corny Collins Show.  She eventually gets her role, and is transformed from a social outcast to a sudden star.  Her belief in equality drives her to fight to dethrone the reigning characters and integrate the new Corny Collins Show.  The story line navigates the racial tensions and stereotypes of the 1960s.  Hairspray, JR. speaks to its audiences the celebration of diversity through humour, dance and music, including the popular songs “You Can’t Stop the Beat” and “Good Morning Baltimore.”
